Now we know why the Innovation and Technology Bureau objected to the community proposal for a sports pitch near the Arcade (Newsletter Nov 2017)!
The Financial Secretary has set aside HK$5.5billion in his 2019 Budget to expand Cyberport’s facilities:
“I will earmark $5.5 billion for the development of Cyberport 5. This will serve to attract more quality technology companies and start-ups to set up their offices in Cyberport and provide a pathway for young people to pursue a career in I&T. The expansion project is expected to provide about 66 000 square metres of floor area, and include facilities such as offices, co-working space, conference venues and data service platforms. We will proceed with the statutory town planning procedures with a view to commencing construction in 2021 for completion in 2024 at the earliest.”
This is a significant increase. The existing Cyberport 1 - 4 is 92,000 square metres. The plan received shows that Cyberport 5 will be located in front of the Cyberport Arcade. News reports show the site as 1.6 hectare and a proposed building height of 11 storeys. The hotel is 13 storeys.
In Cyberport’s press release (click here) it is promised that “Cyberport will carry out a series of work to improve the environment and facilities of the existing waterfront park.”
I have asked Cyberport to release detailed plans for public consultation soon.

我們於2017年11月的薄扶林報告中，提到創新及科技局以希望預留土地擴建數碼港為由，反對於海濱公園興建球場，今日謎底終於解開。
財政司司長於今日的財政預算案中宣佈：「我會預留五十五億元用作發展數碼港第五期，以吸納更多具實力的科技公司和初創企業進駐，也為年輕人提供投身創科界的途徑。擴建項目預計可提供約六萬六千平方米樓面面積，以及包括辦公室、共用工作間、會議場地及數據服務平台等設施。我們會着手進行法定城市規劃程序，以期項目可以在二零二一年動工，預計最快於二零二四年竣工。」
擴建規模頗大，現在數碼港 1至4 座總樓面面積為九萬二千平方米。我們收到的資料顯示數碼港五座選址為商場前方的公園部份，建築物前面將預留空間設置海濱長廊。
綜合多份新聞報導，數碼港五座將佔地1.6公頃，樓高11層（艾美酒店為樓高13層）。
