Over the past month, residents reported beige streaks in East Lamma Channel commonly referred to as red tide. The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department’s water sample analysis on 22 July 2022 confirmed a bloom-forming species - the diatom genus pseudo - nitzschia calliantha - not often seen in Hong Kong waters. It is a potential producer of the neurotoxin domoic acid and causative organisms of amnesic shellfish poisoning (ASP). Fortunately, no toxins were detected in the local cell cultures.
The red tide which appeared on 2 August 2022 was formed by the non-toxic Dactyliosolen phuketensis.
過往一個月,我們收到居民報告薄扶林對開的東博寮海峽水域多次出現啡色的污染物。經測試水辦後,漁農自然護理署証實7月22日的污染物屬紅潮,由靚紋擬菱形藻組成,於本港水域並不常見。這種藻可產生引致失憶性貝類中毒(ASP)的軟骨藻酸。然而,香港培殖的藻株並沒有發現釋出軟骨藻酸。另外,8月2日的紅潮則由無毒素的指管藻組成。
